The files contain data that has been used for the study of the main personality phenotype of three blue tits populations located in Corsica (France) and published in Behavioral Ecology (Environmental heterogeneity and population differences in blue tits personality traits. Dubuc-Messier, Gabrielle; Reale, Denis; Perret, Philippe; Charmantier, Anne). The study was conducted between 2011 and 2015. The four files contain data on the four personality traits studied namely handling aggression (HA), heart rate during manual restraint (HR), exploration speed and nest defense intensity. Details about the sampling procedures can be found in the manuscript.

The following columns are common to each file:
- Capture number: unique identifier for rows that corresponds to the identity of the individual, the year, month and day of the capture.
- Pop : correspond to the population from which the individual was captured (D-Muro, E-Muro or E-Pirio)
- ID : two letters and an unique number for each individual for each trait
- Day, month and year: correspond to the capture date
- Sex: sex of the focal individual
- Time: time of day (hours and minutes)
- Age: Juvenile (JUV; one year old) or adult (AD; more than one year old)

Data HA
This file contains data on handling aggression scores (column Handling aggression) and other variables that have an impact on this trait and that were considered as fixed effect in the analysis:
- Observer: identity of the observer that manipulated the bird and attributed the handling aggression score
- Capture period: pre-breeding or breeding
- Laying date: laying date (numbers of days since march 1st, same year, first clutch of the year).

Data HR
This file contains data on heart rate during manual restraint (mean interval (sec.) between two heart beats) and other variables that have an impact on this trait and that were considered as fixed effect in the analysis:
- Observer: identity of the observers that did the heart rate recording
- Recording hour: Time of the heart rate recording
- Time between capture and recording
- Days between laying date and recording: numbers of days between the heart rate
recording and the laying date (same year, first clutch of the year).
- Breath rate 1 and breath rate 2: Breath rate was recorded two times in a row
- Body mass: (g) measured after heart rate recording

Data Speed
This file contains data on average speed in an novel environment apparatus (Speed cm/s) that have been extracted with the software Ethovision and other variables that have an impact on this trait and that were considered as fixed effect in the analysis:
- Laying date: laying date (numbers of days since march 1st, same year, first clutch of the year).

Nest Defense
This file contains data on nest defense intensity measured as the minimum approach distance (Min. Distance (m)) of blue tits when a stuffed Eurasian jays was put in front of their nest-box when nestlings had nine days old and other variables that have an impact on this trait and that were considered as fixed effect in the analysis:
- Dist. Obs. : distance in meter between the observer and the nest-box
- Jay number : identity of the jay; we used two different stuffed jays
- Dist. Jay-Nest: distance in cm between the jay and the nest-box
- Closest branch: distance in cm between the nest box and the closest branch.
